Founded in 1967 by the late Elizabeth Svendsen for her love of donkeys, Elizabeth and her family have been very successful in growing the charity and looking after donkeys all over the world. The campaign to fund this, with heartrending stories of donkeys in distress, can be seen on all the plaques that are displayed in the fields and on the boards. The very best care is given to the donkeys who have acres of land on which to roam. Visit the Understanding Donkeys Zone and Dr Svendsen's Hut to get a good picture of what goes on at the Sanctuary. There are many scenic farm trails, a Nature Centre, Play Area and a Maze amongst other things and then stop for lunch in the new restaurant with wonderful views. Dogs are also welcome on leads.
