Honiton Hot PenniesHoniton Hot Pennies are thrown from the high windows of the High Street to the youngsters down below. A floral glove is erected for the week and the saying goes that no one can be arrested while the glove is up (however, the police ignore this bit)! This event dates back to the 13th century and is held on the first Tuesday after the 19th July at 12 noon. They were heated very hot in the old days, so as to scald the fingers of the poor, as the rich were amused by this. Today, thankfully, they are only warm. |
Honiton Hill RallyHoniton Hill Rally is held on the last weekend of August at the Smeatharpe Airfield. Vintage tractors, other machines of time gone by and all things vintage can be seen working. Kingsbeer FestivalHeld in mid July ALL ABOUT.... The (5th annual) KingsBeer Festival will once again be on the embankment at Kingswear and enjoys uninterrupted, panoramic views of the River Dart. We doubt there is a beer festival in the country with more beautiful views while you sample fantastic beers sourced from across the UK. We will be offering over 60 ales and ciders to choose from (plus wines and soft drinks) and there will be live music and a BBQ too! This year we are extending both the beer and food selections available. |
Ugborough Fair WeekHeld at the beginning of July New for this year was the music tent, chicken racing and the children’s tent full of activities. There were plenty of stalls selling drinks, food and crafts as well as the book stall which was bigger than ever this year, and the infamous Bric-a-brac overflowing with treasures collected over the last 6 months. There were traditional cream teas served in the church and a proper BBQ in the square. Fair week started on Sunday 2nd July with a football tournament, Monday night was Pizza night, homemade pizzas cooked in a proper pizza oven are served alongside the Family Dog Show. Quiz Night was on Tuesday and Bingo was on Wednesday. New for this year was a Landrover Rally on Thursday – an amazing parade of Landrovers and other vintage vehicles in the square. Ten Tours - Walking Challenge2nd Weekend in May, The Ten Tors Challenge is attempted by 2,400 teenagers in 400 teams of six. The teams navigate routes of 35, 45 or 55 miles (depending on age) over the Northern half of Dartmoor, visiting ten nominated tors / check points in under two days.
