There has been a farm at Hollacombe since Anglo-Saxon times. The accommodation here is in the traditional "linhay" which were originally built as cattle accommodation, but is now a very well-appointed 2 bedroom cottage with full CH and a wood-burning stove. Logs supplied free.
Downstairs through the front door is a porch and cloakroom with WC and wash-basin, and a door into a large open-plan lounge and kitchen/dining area. The kitchen is very well-equipped with eye level double electric oven with grill and a gas hob, washing machine and has ample work tops and cupboards. You can also enjoy our own spring water "on-tap". The lounge has a TV and DVD player, and free WIFI. There are fabulous all round views with access outside through 2 sets of attractive arched french doors.
Upstairs, the are 2 bedrooms, one double and one with 2 single beds. Each has its own en-suite shower, WC and wash-basin. We supply all bedding and towels. Also available for your use is a travel cot/bed cot, highchair and baby bath.
Outside there is a BBQ, picnic table, bird feeders, swings and a slide for the children.
Up to two dogs welcomed. We respectfully ask that dogs do not go into bedrooms or on the furniture.
Diverse flora and fauna can be found in abundance at Hollacombe either by walking the farm valley fields or watching for wildlife in the hide which the Devon Wildlife Trust helped design. The previous owners received a Silver Award from them for their work for the benefit of Devon's wildlife and natural environment and put up a barn owl box in the valley.
Red Deer can be seen from the cottage and the hide and also badgers and foxes. It is believed that a polecat has been seen and 9 varieties of bats have been recorded at Hollacombe including the Lesser & Greater Horseshoe bats. Exmoor National Park is now an International Dark Sky Reserve. Experience the thrill of dark skies full of stars at Hollacombe.
The Red Linhay is environmental friendly having solar panels, a heat pump and wood from our hedging for the woodburner.
Just 4 miles from the coast at Combe Martin, we are only a short distance from the surfing at Woolacombe and Croyde. We are also ideally placed for those wanting to explore Exmoor and North Devon. Lynton & Barnstaple railway close by at Woody Bay station, also close by is Lorna Doone country. Nearby is the Calvert Trust and Brown trout fishing is available at Wistlandpound just 2 miles away.
In addition, we are just 1/2 mile from a well-run family pub with a good play area.
