Your welcoming accommodation here is our south-facing farmhouse wing with a commanding position overlooking the beautiful Exe Valley with its wooded hillsides and peaceful river meadows. It is comfortably furnished with a small, pleasant garden and ample, safe parking. We are pleased if you choose to walk over the farm enjoying splendid views of the surrounding countryside with Exmoor National Park in the distance.
Keep your eyes open for wildlife - Exmoor red deer, owls, buzzards and other birds, badgers, foxes, wild orchids etc.
We have some beef cattle and 300-400 sheep. Shepherding is still done the traditional way, with working Border Collies, which also compete in local sheepdog trials. We are pleased to drive you over our 300 acres and to show children the farm animals and well behaved dogs are welcome.
Wonham Barton is only a few minutes from Bampton, well known for its annual floral displays and the traditional October Charter Fair which has been going for about 800 years, where Exmoor ponies were traditionally sold. Dulverton, "the gateway to Exmoor" is about ten minutes away and both have good, local shops. Nearby, Tiverton and South Molton bustle on market days and historic Exeter, with its fine cathedral is within easy reach;also Taunton (the county town of Somerset) and Barnstaple, both good shopping centres, are within an hour's drive. The farm is ideally located close to the Devon/Somerset border and it is easy to reach the north and south coasts, wonderful, sandy beaches, quaint fishing villages or, indeed, the quieter, but romantic moorlands of Exmoor and Dartmoor if you prefer.
There is a wealth of interesting places to visit - hidden curiosities, superb country pubs, fascinating churches, great houses (several owned by the National Trust) and fine gardens There are traditional craft industries- pottery, glass and sheepskin and country pursuits nearby - fishing (coarse and fly), riding on Exmoor, wonderful walking trails including the South West Coastal Path, golf, sailing swimming etc. Modern leisure and sports centres are also easily accessible.
While you are here, we trust that time will run a little more slowly so that you can savour the tranquillity of our valley and share part of our farming year. We hope you will be captivated by this special corner of Devon, such that once discovered you will want to return...
