Valentines is a fantastic time to get away with your loved one and enjoy some valuable time to yourselves. Get away from your busy schedule at work, your stressful list of jobs to complete at home and come to Devon. You might be asking yourself but why Devon? Well, there is an abundance of reasons why Devon should be your Valentines visit. You have the dramatic coastline, long walks in the beautiful rolling hills, the romantic cobbled streets of fishing villages and delicious food for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Romantic Walks
When it comes to walking it does not get much better than Devon. You are spoilt for choice and variety. There are not many places in the country where within a short drive of one another you can be on the moors in the morning and on the beach by the afternoon. Enjoy a gentle stroll across the beach, hand in hand with the sea air tousling at your hair and the taste of salt on your lips. Alternatively, if you are feeling a little more adventurous you can grab a map and head to the moorland of either Dartmoor or Exmoor. Both equally beautiful, rugged and charming, a perfect way to spend a day with your loved one for valentines. In addition to both the sea and the moors, Devon is blessed with an expanse of stunning countryside, a combination of farmland and wilderness much of which has wonderful walks throughout to be enjoyed. There is also a range of different trails including the Tarka Trail where you can walk or hire bikes to cycle.
Delicious Dinners
We might be a little biased but the food in Devon is heavenly. If you want wine and dine experience, there are a range of great restaurants dotted around the county. Being so close to the sea many of these restaurants serve fresh fish dishes that are simply exquisite. If you would prefer to hide away in a little country pub then you are in luck as this is something Devon has in abundance. You can sit down on a comfy sofa next to a roaring fire and chat to your hearts content. Or if you fancy something a little more low key, there are lots of local farm shops selling delicous homegrown produce where you can purchase a picnic or dinner menu to cook back at your accommodation. So your perfect valentines meal is easy to acquire here in Devon.
Quaint villages
Strolling down cobbled streets, hand in hand admiring the quirky shops and brightly coloured seaside homes. Stop in for a coffee in the coffee shop and enjoy a delicious cream tea. Explore the hidden treasures of old antique shops, book shops and boutiques. Meet the locals with their Devonshire charm and get swept up in the romance and magic of Devon and its quaint little villages.
History steeped cities
Although Devon does not have many cities the two that it does have are steeped with history. Explore Exeter and its magnificent cathedral or Plymouth and its maritime history. Both are filled with fantastic shops for those who might still need to find that perfect Valentines gift! There are plenty of dining choices from your high street brands to hidden gems waiting to be found. Explore their narrow streets and find boutiques to get lost in. Parks are close by for a touch of fresh air or enjoy the waterfronts that both Exeter and Plymouth are blessed with.
Attractions
If you want to plan a day out for your loved one, then there are lots of attractions in Devon. Zoos and Aquariums are always a winner and Devon has plenty. Head to Plymouth Zoo, Dartmoor Zoo, Exmoor Zoo, Paignton Zoo for a fun day out. Visit Living Coasts Aquarium in Torquay, Ilfracombe Aquarium or the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth. Devon is also blessed with a wide range of National Trust sites and RHS Gardens such as Rosemoor which make for a lovely day out with your loved one.
You might just fancy staying in for a long weekend to relax. Here at Devon Farm Holidays our accommodation sites are beautiful and some even have hot tubs so perhaps just staying in is just as good.
