We are back again this week with our dog-friendly beaches winter edition but this week we are focusing on South Devon. South Devon is a stunning part of the county which combines expansive green countryside, picturesque beaches and quaint villages. Taking your canine companion with you to enjoy the trip is one of the benefits of going on holiday in the UK. Because so many of us enjoy taking our dog on holiday with us we wanted to showcase the dog-friendly beaches you can visit this winter in South Devon.
The Beaches
Soar Mill Cove, near Salcombe | A remote sandy cove that is only accessible via a South West Coast Footpath which means your dog gets a good walk along country paths before descending down to the freedom of the beach. |
South Milton Sands, Thurlestone | This is a National Trust beach that boasts a long sandy stretch which is perfect for walking the dog. |
Beesands, near Kingsbridge | Located near to Kingsbridge this beautiful beach is a mile-long shingle beach which is backed by views of the countryside. A brilliant place to let the dog run loose and let your worries melt away. |
North Sands, Salcombe | An easy 15 minute walk away from Salcombe itself, this stunning little beach is the perfect place to walk the pooch if you are staying in Salcombe. However, you need to make sure to check the tide times as at high tide the beach is completely submerged. |
Wonwell Sands, near Modbury | One of the more remote beaches in South Devon but it does boast beautiful views and is great for a quick stop. Parking is limited. |
East Portlemouth | A quiet beach that allows you to escape the crowds and relax with your canine friend. It is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and when you visit there you will understand why. |
Mill Bay | A little beach that is actually privately owned but still open to the public. There is a National Trust car park where you can park up before wrapping up warm and exploring the beach. A very family-friendly beach and at low tide there is plenty of rock pools to explore. |
Ness Cove, Shaldon | This is a beach with a twist, only accessible through a smugglers tunnel which has both steps and slopes for all abilities. A shingle beach with beautiful views making it a picturesque spot for dog walkers. |
Slapton Sands | If you are looking for a long beach walk then Slapton Sands is the beach to go to. A shingle and pebble beach that arches around the sea. |
Teignmouth Beach From Eastcliff slipway to Holocombe | A beach where you can not run out of space, expanding over a long stretch of sand. A great place to take the dog when staying in Teignmouth. As well as the beach nearby facilities include crazy golf, play park, skate park, cafes and more. |
Bigbury On The Sea | Located near to Kingsbridge this family-friendly beach is a lovely beach to take the whole family for a New Years Day walk. Situated in an Area of Natural Beauty this beach is one not to be missed. |
Blackpool Sands | One of South Devons most popular beaches. A sheltered bay with a long sandy stretch that both you and your dog can enjoy. |
