Booking a holiday, whether it is a romantic getaway or a big family holiday is exciting. It is something that so many of us love doing, but there is nothing more annoying than booking fees. Here at Devon Farms, we do not have them! You book direct with the owner of the accommodation site that you want to stay at which is cheaper than booking through sites that add additional booking fees. This is one really good reason to book with us here at Devon Farms. However, we wanted to tell you a few more reasons why you might want to book through Devon Farm Holidays.
Who/What is Devon Farm Holidays?
Devon farms is a co-operative which celebrates and promotes rural and farm accommodation in Devon. The countryside is a huge part of Devon and its culture, so where better to stay than in the heart of it, nestled away in a country cottage or a bed & breakfast. As we mentioned many of these accommodation sites are located on working farms. Farming is part of the Devonshire culture, something that is deep-rooted and celebrated. By staying on a farm you get a glimpse into the life of a farmer. From experience, it is something children love, many of the holiday cottages or bed & breakfast sites set up sessions where children can meet the animals, collect eggs, feed the animals and truly get stuck in! An experience that always lights up children’s faces and creates memories to cherish forever.
The Countryside
As well as the stunning accommodation we have to offer there is so much of Devon that is worth exploring. First is the countryside itself, brimming with woodlands, rolling hills, lakes and moorland. Grab your walking boots and get out on one of the many walks on offer. Exmoor National Park has a unique landscape of moorland, woodland and farmland that joins right up to the coast. This diverse range of countryside makes it a wonderful place to explore. Dartmoor is a little more rugged in its beauty. It too has a diverse range of countryside as well as tales of mystery, something that entices many to explore. Some of our accommodation sites are dog-friendly which means you can bring your canine companion with you for your walking adventures.
The Beaches
A holiday to the seaside is something we all cherish. The fresh sea air combined with sand between your toes, fun in the waves and lots of Devonshire icecreams is good for the soul. Come and explore the range of beaches we have on offer in Devon. The choice is tremendous, from North Devon to South Devon and East Devon you will find the perfect beach for you and your loved ones. Whether you are coming down to fulfil your surfing needs or want a sandy beach to sit back and enjoy the sun on your skin, there is a beach for everyone! Devon is also spoilt with lots of rocky coves to explore where adventures such as rock pooling are to be had.
Cities and Towns
Although Devon is blessed with a glorious range of countryside there is also an abundance of market towns, seaside villages and even a couple of beautiful cities. Starting with the cities, you can choose from either Plymouth or Exeter, both of which are filled with history, steeped in architecture and have lots of shops to explore. The food and drink are in abundance in these beautiful cities. Exeter waterfront is a pretty quayside that has a few craft shops, outdoor shops and lots of delicious restaurants. You can even hire out bicycles or kayak/canoes if you are feeling active. Plymouth is a port city and is known for its maritime heritage. Explore the seafront or get stuck into the many shops on offer, ranging from quaint boutiques to high street brands.
Market towns are another beautiful part of the Devonshire countryside. There is an abundance of market towns across Devon some of which still have regular markets running each week, selling everything from crafts, gifts to cows and sheep! If you are thinking about visiting a market, make sure you do as it is a lovely atmosphere and a great day out. As well as the markets these towns often offer tasty eateries, little boutique shops filled with one of a kind items as well as attraction sites and museums.
Fishing villages are as idyllic in person as they are on a postcard. Cobbled streets, small craft shops and restaurants selling delicious seafood dishes are just some of what is on offer. Walk along the seafront, grab an ice cream and enjoy the blissful sound of the sea. Fish and chips shops are dotted around everywhere, many boasting the best freshly caught, local fish around.
