That is why today we wanted to bring you a blog post all about the things you can get up to in Devon this October half term. Where better than Devon where there is such an abundance of activities to enjoy.
Festive Activities
With Halloween just around the corner it is a great time to get festive and here in Devon we have lots of Halloween fun to be had.
First up is the pumpkin trail at RHS Rosemoor. This year for Halloween they are running a pumpkin trail where you follow each of the coloured pumpkins to discover a scrambled word. Unscramble the letters to discover the word. In addition to the pumpkins, RHS Rosemoor is one of Devon’s garden treasures with a real variety of beautiful gardens to explore. They all are truly stunning regardless of the time of year, in fact currently the area is ablaze with autumn colours. Follow the pumpkins with the children and feel the leaves crisp underfoot for a wonderful autumnal day out before heading back to a cosy holiday cottage or bed and breakfast. Book today.
Another festive attraction to keep the children entertained this October half term in Devon is Woodlands. A fun theme park located near Dartmouth with lots for the children to see and do including this years ‘Hallooscream’! A fun series of rides and activities all themed around Halloween including a pumpkin path, a ghost farm ride, a mystical maze and more!Woodlands has a farm zoo and a falconry centre for those who would love to meet some animals. For those of you who love a good pumpkin trail then we have another one for you but this time at Killerton, Exeter. As a family you can enjoy the autumnal colours the wonderful grounds have to offer while searching for pumpkins. Click here to learn more.
If perhaps you fancy staying at the holiday accommodation and having your Halloween fun, there then why not first go and pick your own pumpkin for some pumpkin carving competitions. At Darts Farm, near Exeter you can do just that with a pumpkin field for you to go and pick your very own pumpkins.

Outdoor Activities
As well as the festive fun there are lots of other wonderful outdoor activities to be enjoyed while in Devon. First up has to be exploring the wonderful variety of beaches on offer, from small pebbled coves to long sandy stretches, there are lots to enjoy on a family walk. Some of our favourites include Woolacombe in North Devon for its long sandy stretch. Westward Ho! again in North Devon with its impressive pebbled sea wall and fun Arcade, to the likes of Bigbury-on-Sea where you can see Burgh Island. There are many many more all of which are a great family day out before retreating back to a warm holiday cottage for hot chocolate and cake.
Keeping with the theme of family walks, Devon is not only blessed with beautiful beach walks but also wonderful moorland. With both Exmoor and Dartmoor within day trips of each other you are blessed with a huge selection of walks to enjoy. While out on the moors you will get the chance to see the wildlife including birds of prey and native ponies.
For those of you who prefer cycling over walking, you will be pleased to hear about the Tarka Trail route. It is a 180 mile figure of eight route which is all a relatively flat route. It ranges between Okehampton and Lynton with lots of different spots where a picnic could be enjoyed or to stop off at a local cafe. Plus if you do not bring your bikes with you there are lots of locations where you can hire bikes.
